On March 11, 2026, a disciplinary panel of the Texas Medical Board temporarily suspended, without notice, the Texas medical license of An Q. Van, M.D. (Lic. No. Q4869), after determining his continuation in the practice of medicine poses a continuing threat to public welfare. The suspension was effective immediately.
The Board panel found that on February 12, 2026, Dr. Van was arrested in Houston for possession of child pornography.
The Texas Medical Board is accepting applications for two new licenses created by HB 2038, the DOCTOR Act. Detailed information regarding both license types is now available on the TMB website. HB 2038 introduces a new licensure pathway for internationally trained physicians and establishes a license category for medical school graduates who do not secure a residency position.
The Texas Medical Board is aware of intervention by the Attorney General in a lawsuit filed by Dr. Mary Bowden. In pleadings and press releases, issued after the OAG previously undertook representation of TMB, OAG made numerous inaccurate statements. TMB has provided ample justification for disciplining Dr. Bowden for attempting to treat a patient at a hospital in which she did not have privileges. TMB intends to vigorously contest these claims and will stand firm to ensure hospitalized Texans receive care from doctors who are authorized to be on hospital premises.
